JOJO JUB25 – Anniversary Knife

HISTORY

For fifteen years, I have regularly visited Bergell in Graubünden – amidst venerable granite and a unique spiritual density. For just as long, we lacked a suitable knife for the local Rustico bread there. Over the years, this became a running gag: "Surely the knifemaker can solve this," my family and friends teased.

Yet Bergell resists the new. In the landscape of Alberto Giacometti, also shaped by Marcel Proust, Hermann Hesse, Max Frisch, and Friedrich Dürrenmatt, arbitrariness has no place. It needs something that carries the echo of a bygone era.

My friend Herbert Bock collected old cutlery for me for years. When his box fell into my hands again after a long time, I pulled out a knife – bent and massively rusted. On the fractured handle was written: "ETABLISSEMENT RONACHER".

Whether Josephine Baker actually ate with precisely this knife is rather unlikely. However, one thing is certain: This knife had been in use long before she entered the stage of Vienna's Ronacher in 1932.

I repurposed this blade – in memory of the courageous Josephine Baker – into a bread knife. Thus, the JOJO JUB25 anniversary knife was created: light, extremely sharp, equipped with a leather sheath, and ready for the mountains.

CHARACTER

Steel with history, in which the echo of past times resonates – a worthy knife for bread and for those who appreciate its value.
